The University of Nebraska is engaged in a process to acquire and implement a new student information system.
This important new system will provide the opportunity to advance the strategic goals of the university and better serve our students, faculty and staff. Preparation for this project has involved leadership from each campus and has the full support of the chancellors and me. I have asked Dr. Linda Pratt, Executive Vice President and Provost, to serve as executive sponsor of the project, and I have appointed a key group of campus leaders to a university-wide steering committee, chaired by Dr. David Crouse of UNMC. I invite you to participate with us in this project.
Our university is reaching out to Nebraskans more than ever before. Our goal to tap into all the talent in our state and our efforts to provide affordable access to Nebraskans has resulted in increased enrollments at our campuses, and has attracted more top students to the university than ever before.
It is important that we provide the highest level of student services and support to enable our students to be successful. Our current SIS system has served us well, but the technology is dated and is reaching the point where it will no longer be supported. With the help of some leading experts and the full involvement of each campus, it is now time for us to take the service we provide to a higher level. This is important for our students as well as faculty and staff who teach and serve our students in many ways.
This website was created to describe the plans we have for preparing for and selecting a new SIS system. It will outline what, when, how, who, and how long. I hope you will read this material and pass the link on to others.
We will call this initiative the NeSIS project (Nebraska University Student Information System), and there is no doubt that this project will require the effort, ingenuity and commitment of a large number of stakeholder groups on all four campuses.
Thank you for your commitment to this important endeavor.
James B. Milliken
