Why are we doing this project ?

The Student Information Systems at the Nebraska University campuses and the Nebraska State College campuses were implemented in the early1990’s using a product known as SCT’s SIS Plus software. Over the last 20+ years, these systems have become, by necessity, a patchwork of logic changes and new web services that were required to support the changing academic missions of the campuses. Our medical center campus, UNMC, has developed a home-grown system that serves their current needs. Overall, the old SIS systems continue to serve the university and the state colleges, yet have reached the point of diminishing returns.

Further, the replacement of these systems is even more critical in light of the vendor’s decision to stop supporting the software at the end of 2011. The university and the state colleges will be at significant risk if we do not replace this key piece of infrastructure that supports the policies and procedures for the campuses in both systems. .  The University of Nebraska and the Nebraska State College system must take action to replace the current systems as soon as possible so as to be able to test and implement a new student information system while the current systems still function.

We have engaged the consultants from Collegiate Project Services (CPS) to help each of our campuses  throughout the planning phase of this complex effort to replace our Student Information Systems.  CPS will work with the University and the State Colleges to identify the features we want in a new Student System, help us prepare to issue an RFP to solicit vendor proposals, evaluate those proposals to find the best-fit vendor, and finally get ready to implement the chosen Student System.
